European Film Club

The Roxy Cinema (a Brexit-free zone!) is hosting a series of screenings of European films in partnership with the European Film Club of Axbridge. We hope this will appeal to all lovers of Europe, languages and film.

The showings will be preceded by a very short presentation in the language of the film by a native or fluent speaker. A vote will be held on the night to decide whether or not to have subtitles. We hope the presence of native speakers will encourage people to chat over drinks in French, Italian, Spanish or German, so you get the opportunity to brush up your speaking skills too. A level students of modern languages are particularly welcome, and the choice of films may be related to what is on the syllabus.

We hope these once-monthly events will develop into a full programme for 2018, and with this in mind we are running two pilot showings between now and Christmas. These will be of Entre Les Murs, (French: 7 for 7.30 on Tuesday 7th November), and of Good bye Lenin! (German: 7 for 7.30 on Tuesday 5th December).

Prices for the pilots (may change later): £3 per seat, £2 for concessions (pay at the door).
